So Long Leroy

Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to remember our dear friend and faithful companion, Leroy the goldfish.  This morning was met with tears and great sorrow as Leroy was discovered laying at the bottom of his bowl.  A life cut short.  He had only been with us for a day...and he wasn't even ours.

Leroy A. Goldfish was born in Waterloo.  He attended classes in a school of fish until he left home to pursue life as a rodeo clown fish.  He is survived by his seahorse, Wade.  After riding the circuit for several years, he formed a band with a few French guys.  They called themselves, Fish and Chips.  They hoped to be big starfish one day, but unfortunately, Leroy soon became involved with drugs.  He was briefly incarcerated for smoking seaweed.  After being paroled, he was employed by a carnival as a prize in the "Ping Pong Pitch".

Friends, although we knew him for only a little while, Leroy became a real chum. From the moment we met, he had us...hook, line and sinker.  Our love for him will never abate.
Leroy may have been just a carnival fish from the wrong side of the pond, and yes he was a little fishy, but he deserved better.  I remember the first time we met...twenty-nine hours ago.  He was swimming around his bowl, so carefree.  Little did he know that he would soon be caught up in the current of life, only to leave this wet world forever.

In his last moments, floundering, Leroy fished for the meaning of life.  Was he truly just another fish in the sea?  Was he a little fish in a big pond or a big fish in a little pond?  Heaven... real or just another whale of a tale?

A private funeral was held at Leroy's request.  He was buried at sea...via the Chesapeake Bay watershed.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Disney's efforts to find Nemo.

*Really, Leroy was won by a friend at a carnival this weekend.  While entrusted to our care, Leroy went belly-up.  Forgive my silliness and thanks for reading today's fish shtick!
