Housebroken

This week on Housebroken, we explore the wonders of corn.
Why corn?  Why not?!
I watched a documentary about corn once...don't make fun of me, it was interesting.  It said that an average American consumes 1500 pounds a corn per year!  That's over four pounds a day!  It turns out that corn is in just about everything we eat.  Who knew?!

But today I want to share with you a fresh outlook on corn.  Together, let us delve deeper and discover a new and enchanting world of corn...

This spring I decided that the kids needed an outdoor activity, preferably one that entertained them for many long hours of blissful play.  So, I built a corn box!
Sand is so messy.  It always ends up inside the kid's shoes and they track it all though the house.  By the end of summer half the sand from the box has been sucked down the bathtub drain from daily, if not hourly, baths.  Besides, the neighbors have a sandbox that our kids frequent anyway.

All it took to create our corn box was a few pieces of scrap lumber from our garage, nails, and a little elbow grease.  I managed to make the whole thing without help or the use of profane language!  If you don't have the time or just don't like swinging a hammer, I would assume an old sandbox or plastic kiddie pool would work just as well.

All we needed then was a 100 pound bag of shelled corn from our local feed mill.  It only cost $17 and filled our box quite nicely.  Just a few sand toys and trucks to complete the package and we were ready for a corny good time!

And, if  the afore mentioned benefits of a corn box weren't enough, our neighbors now have their very own corn crop!
